Each month, more than 200 people volunteer their time to sort, package, and prepare medical supplies and equipment for shipment to the medical missions we serve. In Fiscal Year 2015, our team of volunteers achieved many noteworthy milestones:

  • 16,929 hours by our volunteers.
  • 1,621 hours donated by several Hospital Sisters of St. Francis.
  • 200.5  hours given by bio-technicians to repair equipment.
  • Entered 498,660 pounds of supplies and equipment into our online inventory.
  • Processed and sent supplies to fill 50 forty-foot containers.

There are a variety of volunteer opportunities available for individuals and groups of all skill levels at our warehouse located at 4930 LaVerna Road, Springfield, Illinois 62707. Although a medical background is beneficial, the majority of our Mission Outreach volunteers have little to no medical training.

Volunteers from Wells Fargo

Volunteer Opportunities are available to
individuals who are 13 years of age or older.

1st Sort & 2nd Sort (the majority of our volunteers start as medical supply sorters):

Supplies are first sorted by broad medical categories, and are also counted and packaged. During the second sort, categories are further narrowed down into greater detail. For example, a general category such as gloves, is divided into latex and latex-free. Both jobs require lifting boxes of up to 25 pounds.

Data Entry:

A critically needed volunteer position, this job requires basic computer volunteer packing up medical suppliesskills, attention to detail and lifting boxes up to 25 pounds.

Warehouse:

Volunteers help prepare shipments and containers on an as needed basis.

Additional opportunities:

• Assisting drivers with equipment pick-ups
• Testing and repairing medical equipment
• Assisting with fund-raising and event planning
• Some sit-down jobs are available. Please contact the Volunteer Coordinator
    in advance for more information.
